Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to make a historic attempt this year by competing for two world titles at the Crucible within a month. The snooker legend has signed up for the World Seniors Snooker Championship, where he will not only face off against other senior players but also aim to secure his record-breaking eighth crown at the World Championship, marking his 34th consecutive appearance at the prestigious event.
Scheduled to kick off on May 6 in Yorkshire, the senior tournament will witness O’Sullivan’s debut participation. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has confirmed O’Sullivan’s presence, highlighting him as the most commercially successful and captivating figure in the sport, headlining what is anticipated to be the strongest field ever assembled for a World Seniors event.
Among the notable participants joining O’Sullivan are fellow world champions Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty, along with a lineup that includes Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, Tony Drago, Robert Milkins, and other seasoned players. The Chairman of the event, Jason Francis, expressed excitement over O’Sullivan’s debut, emphasizing the boost in ticket sales and anticipation due to Ronnie’s involvement.
Following the 2025 World Championship, the World Snooker Tour adjusted rules to allow professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 to compete in the veterans circuit. O’Sullivan, currently holding seven world titles, aims to add to his collection after leveling with Stephen Hendry’s record in 2022.
Hendry, a former rival, has shown support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth world title, citing his own pride in specific records he holds. He mentioned his preference for O’Sullivan to achieve further success, acknowledging the exceptional talent required to win at a young age in the sport.
