British Tourist Dies in Canary Islands Balcony Fall

A British tourist, aged 56, has tragically passed away in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20 feet when a hotel railing collapsed. Another vacationer, aged 54, also fell and sustained serious injuries in the same incident in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. The deceased man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured individual was swiftly taken to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital and remains in critical condition.

The mishap occurred around 1:30 am, prompting emergency services to respond to reports of the two individuals falling from a significant height within the hotel premises. Authorities including the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and the Spanish Civil Guard were dispatched to the location.

Local reports indicate that the railing that failed was located in an elevated section of the hotel complex. The Civil Guard has initiated an investigation to ascertain any potential negligence in the railing’s maintenance or the hotel’s security measures.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office informed the Mirror that support is being provided to the families of the deceased British man and the injured British man in Spain. This incident follows a similar one in August, where a 22-year-old British tourist suffered severe injuries after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Ibiza. The incident took place at the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio.
