“Family Alleges Coercion in Kidney Donation Tragedy”

The loved ones of a cherished British father who tragically passed away in Turkey are alleging that doctors attempted to coerce them by suggesting they would only prolong his life if they agreed to donate a kidney.

John Kearney, aged 64, journeyed to Marmari for a vacation with friends in September. Unfortunately, he sustained a severe head injury after falling off a rental scooter on his way back to the hotel. Nearly two weeks later, he succumbed to his injuries in a Turkish hospital.

Following the incident, John’s family was informed to urgently travel to Turkey as medical staff intended to terminate life support. Joanna Kearney, his daughter, claims that while she requested more time for family members to bid farewell, doctors made a shocking demand.

Despite the family’s willingness to donate the organ, Joanna received a WhatsApp message from a doctor indicating the kidney was not a suitable match. She was then bluntly asked if she wanted to see her father one last time. John, a dedicated handyman from Birkenhead, Wirral, was not provided with a helmet when he rented the scooter at the resort.

Joanna expressed in an interview that she felt pressured into agreeing to the organ donation as doctors implied that keeping her father on life support was contingent on it. She found the situation distressing, but ultimately consented to the kidney donation due to the urgency of the circumstances.

In a touching social media tribute, Joanna mourned her father’s passing, emphasizing his impact on loved ones and friends. Before his untimely demise, John had been scheduled to have his life support discontinued, prompting his family to bid him farewell.

Recounting the lead-up to his hospitalization, Joanna shared her disbelief at the lack of a helmet when her father had his accident. Despite facing initial restrictions, she and her uncle were eventually allowed to visit John in the hospital, where medical staff planned to assess his condition further.

A fundraiser has been initiated on behalf of the family through a GoFundMe page to support them during this challenging time. Contributions can be made to the fundraiser by visiting the provided link.
