Elderly Man Fatally Struck by Council Road Sweeper

Police are currently investigating a tragic incident in Leicester where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a council road sweeper. The collision, which occurred just before 2:15 p.m. yesterday, led to the arrest of a 63-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. However, he has been released pending further investigation.

The victim, an elderly man in his 80s, was immediately taken to the hospital following the incident in Holy Bones, Leicester. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a few hours later. The East Midlands Ambulance Service promptly contacted Leicester Police to report the incident.

Authorities from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are diligently working to determine the sequence of events that led to the tragic collision. They are urging any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward and assist with their inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Mike Steer expressed the police’s commitment to understanding the circumstances surrounding the collision that resulted in the man’s unfortunate death. The vehicle involved was identified as a Leicester City Council road sweeper, and collaboration with the council is ongoing to support the investigation.

The mother, Azaria Green, is endeavoring to raise funds to purchase their rented home to fulfill this wish, as it would allow her to grieve closer to her beloved son.

Azaria shared her emotional turmoil, expressing that having Zaahir buried in their garden would provide solace and aid her in coping with the profound loss. She emphasized the importance of being together as a family, stating that having Zaahir close would significantly benefit her mental well-being during this challenging time.
