“Virgin Media Slashes Gig1 Broadband Price to New Low”

Virgin Media has slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new all-time low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its high-speed Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.

The Gig1 plan boasts speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails at £29.99 per month. However, it is currently available at a discounted rate of £26.99, resulting in a total savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, averaging about 87p per day.

Virgin claims that this promotion marks the “lowest ever price” for the Gig1 service. With these rapid speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play within seven minutes.

While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience game downloads taking more than 90 minutes, Virgin’s Gig1 package ensures seamless streaming and online gaming with its ultra-fast connection.

It is essential to note that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum contract term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Moreover, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so potential customers are advised to verify service availability through Virgin’s postcode checker.

Comparatively, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal outshines similar offerings from competitors like Sky, which reduced its 900Mbps plan to £28, still more expensive and slower than Virgin’s service. Additionally, BT’s 900Mbps connection is priced at £37.99, prompting consumers to explore alternative network providers for potential cost savings.

Community Fibre is currently providing 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract duration, catering primarily to London and select south-east areas.

Users should consider their specific needs before committing to a high-speed plan. For example, a couple streaming Netflix daily may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, while larger households engaged in remote work, movie downloads, and online gaming might benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.

Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre service is likened to having a motorway directly streaming into your home, ensuring a swift and reliable internet experience.
