Graham mentioned feeling that the refusal was somewhat related to social class distinctions and emphasized that they were clean and presentable. Several people on social media criticized the bar’s decision, highlighting the unfair treatment of working individuals.
The Dirty Onion defended their dress code, stating it has been in place for 12 years. The bar’s spokesperson mentioned that while their staff has discretion, workwear is generally not accepted as smart casual attire. They emphasized that their staff politely communicates the policy to customers who do not meet the dress code, ensuring a welcoming environment from the outset.
