Jacob Thompson, aged 19, is currently undergoing medical care in a hospital due to severe burns covering approximately 32% of his body from the alleged incident on October 13. The burns, classified as third-degree, affected his face, torso, arms, back, and legs.
According to authorities, Aaron Valette, also 19, brandished a plastic bottle containing a clear liquid and uttered a menacing warning to Jacob moments before the attack. Valette allegedly threatened to set Jacob on fire if he advanced any closer. Subsequently, Valette purportedly poured the liquid over Jacob before setting him ablaze. Onlookers managed to extinguish the flames following the assault in Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia.
Jacob was swiftly transported to a medical facility for treatment. Law enforcement asserts that the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two local families.
Valette faces charges of causing severe bodily harm with intent and engaging in affray. Mavis Chatfield, aged 45, has also been charged with affray, with both individuals denied bail.
Jacob’s family, speaking to The Daily Telegraph, expressed profound trauma resulting from the attack. They described the distress experienced by Jacob and the entire family who witnessed the harrowing event. The family highlighted the challenging weeks following the incident, with Jacob enduring intense pain and receiving medication for relief.

Receiving care at Concord Hospital, Jacob’s family remains steadfastly supportive. Concerns for their safety prompted the family to leave their former residence in the small town.
