Tesco is set to offer complimentary beverages and snacks to customers this weekend, exclusively at designated parking spaces in selected stores. The initiative, named Park & Pause, will debut at ten Tesco locations on April 11. Visitors will receive a free Tesco Finest hot drink along with a biscuit as part of the promotion.
The supermarket aims to provide a moment of relaxation for shoppers post-Easter, citing research indicating that 42% of Brits seek solace in supermarkets for a brief respite. Tesco representatives will distribute beverages to car windows at the Park & Pause bays from 8am to 5pm, identifiable by a stopwatch symbol marking the spaces.
According to Tesco, parents with children under four are most inclined to utilize Tesco shopping trips as a means to carve out some personal time, with 68% admitting to doing so compared to 38% of those without children.
The Park & Pause spaces have been introduced to support Tesco’s latest campaign, “Need anything from Tesco?” This move follows a previous gesture by Tesco in Kirkwall, Orkney, where the store gave away excess bananas to local community groups and schools instead of disposing of them due to an accidental over-order.
Furthermore, Tesco recently implemented a pay raise for numerous employees as part of a substantial £200 million investment. Shop workers and online fulfillment center staff saw a 5.1% increase in pay to £13.28 per hour, with London-based employees receiving an hourly allowance rise to £1.27, bringing their hourly rate to £14.55 within the M25.
The participating Tesco stores offering the Park & Pause spaces on April 11 include various locations across the UK.
