In response to queries about adjusting tee-times to avoid the clash, R&A chief executive Mark Darbon acknowledged the awareness of other events on the same date. Darbon emphasized the organization’s commitment to minimizing conflicts where feasible, despite certain factors like playoffs that may be beyond their control. He also expressed anticipation for a potential England-Scotland final in the World Cup.
Furthermore, the R&A has confirmed the return of The Open to Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2028 after a 16-year absence. Highlighting the enhancements made to the golf course in recent years, Darbon praised the venue’s quality while acknowledging the operational challenges it presents.
