Serious concerns have emerged following the tragic deaths of two parents in a scalding hot bath after celebrating their daughter’s fourth birthday. Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, and his partner Ana Carolina Silva, 41, were discovered in a tub filled with water at 50 degrees Celsius. Both individuals had elevated levels of alcohol and traces of cocaine in their systems at the time of their demise.
Despite reports of substance presence, Ana Carolina’s family vehemently denied her involvement with drugs and proposed an unsettling possibility of forced ingestion or poisoning. The family expressed outrage over misinformation circulating and demanded a thorough, transparent investigation to uncover the truth.
During a press briefing, Brazilian chief inspector Felipe Simao emphasized that the couple led an active social life but did not have a history of drug use. The couple had spent the evening celebrating their daughter’s birthday before checking into a motel, where they tragically passed away.
Authorities attributed the cause of death to heatstroke, with the added impact of cocaine and alcohol potentially impairing their ability to react to the extreme heat. Investigations revealed that the water temperature in the bathtub was 50 degrees Celsius, and a space heater in the room was set to high levels.
The Chief Medical Examiner, Andressa Boer Fronza, concluded that both deaths were a result of exogenous poisoning, exacerbating heatstroke leading to organ failure. The couple’s young daughter is now under the care of relatives as the community mourns the loss of the devoted parents.
