President Donald Trump has issued a warning, stating his intention to take action in Gaza against Hamas shortly after the implementation of a ceasefire. Trump accused Hamas of causing deaths in Gaza but did not elaborate on the specific incidents he was referring to. Through a post on Truth Social, he stated, “If Hamas persists in causing fatalities in Gaza, contrary to the agreement, we will be compelled to intervene and eliminate the threat. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
This recent statement follows Trump’s previous remarks downplaying internal unrest in Gaza, where he remarked that Hamas had dealt with “a few troublesome groups.” Trump indicated that he was not greatly concerned by these actions.
Despite this, Trump emphasized his dwindling tolerance for the violence committed by Hamas against rival factions within the region. He asserted that unless Hamas disarms voluntarily, forceful disarmament will take place swiftly and potentially involve violence.
Recent reports have emerged of clashes between Hamas and Palestinian groups, some of which received support from Israel during the conflict. Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of breaching the ceasefire terms since its commencement.
A senior Hamas official has alleged that Israel was responsible for the deaths of at least 24 individuals through shootings since the ceasefire began. The official condemned Israel for undermining the agreement by violating its terms on the ground.
Following the seizure of power by militants in Gaza 18 years ago, Hamas-run police had maintained public order while suppressing dissent. However, in recent months, as Israeli forces gained control over parts of Gaza and targeted Hamas security personnel, the police presence diminished significantly.
Subsequently, influential local families, armed groups, and anti-Hamas factions supported by Israel filled the power vacuum. These groups have been accused of misappropriating humanitarian aid for personal gain, exacerbating the food shortage crisis in Gaza.
In another development, Israel reportedly killed five Palestinians in Gaza for crossing the agreed ceasefire boundary. Concerns have been raised over reports suggesting signs of torture and possible executions on the bodies of Palestinians returned to Gaza after being detained by Israel.
Medical sources have disclosed that some of these bodies showed signs of mistreatment, such as being blindfolded and handcuffed, indicating potential extrajudicial killings. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed deep concern over these reports and stressed the need for accountability for all breaches of international law during the conflict.
In response, the Israeli military claimed that one of the bodies returned by Hamas did not match any of the missing individuals. As per the ceasefire terms outlined by Trump, all missing persons, alive or deceased, were to be handed over by a specified deadline. Hamas was obligated to provide information on deceased individuals and facilitate their return promptly if the handover did not occur.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s uncompromising stance and demanded that Hamas adhere to the ceasefire agreement’s provisions regarding the return of missing persons’ bodies. Hamas’ armed division stated that it had complied with the ceasefire terms by surrendering the remains of individuals within its control.
