“Golfer Tyrrell Hatton Jokes About Outperforming Rory McIlroy After Holiday Weight Gain”

Professional golfer Tyrrell Hatton shared that he outperformed a surprised Rory McIlroy at the Dubai Desert Classic after gaining weight from indulging in wine and Guinness over the Christmas period. Despite feeling sluggish and jokingly comparing his movements to the Titanic during his initial round, Hatton managed to score decently. The duo, known for their Ryder Cup camaraderie, mainly conversed about their holiday drinking escapades rather than serious golf matters.

Hatton humorously recounted McIlroy’s shock upon learning his weight gain, revealing he had put on an additional stone since the Ryder Cup. Acknowledging his festive indulgence, Hatton mentioned his enjoyment of December, which involved minimal exercise but plenty of drinking, including having a Guinness tap at home. Now focused on shedding the extra weight, Hatton humorously referred to his current fitness regimen as “damp January,” a lighter version of his previous dry January efforts.

Known for his affinity for Guinness, Hatton’s past experiences with excessive drinking, like waking up in his own vomit after celebrating a Ryder Cup qualification, have been documented. Despite his lack of conditioning due to the upcoming LIV Golf tour, Hatton managed to hold his own on the course with a mix of birdies and bogeys. Reflecting on his performance, Hatton admitted feeling rusty and stiff but was determined to give his best effort.

During the tournament, McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, playing alongside Hatton, opted to focus on their golf game rather than discussing the fines imposed by the DP World Tour for conflicting LIV Golf commitments. McIlroy maintained that the priority was playing good golf in challenging conditions. Meanwhile, Polish golfer Adrian Meronk expressed discontent with the fines imposed on players participating in other tours and called for a fair resolution among the various golf circuits.

As the debate over fines continues among players like Hatton, Rahm, and Meronk, the golfing community awaits a potential resolution to the ongoing dispute.
