Abandoned Cessna Found at Florida Airport

Airport authorities were surprised to find an abandoned aircraft “resting nose-down in the grass near a runway” earlier this week. The pilot of the damaged 1972 Cessna Skyhawk was missing, and it was evident that the plane had veered off the runway following a hard landing on Tuesday.

The unoccupied Cessna N20392 was discovered around 5 am at Naples Municipal Airport in Florida, during a period when the airport’s traffic control tower was closed from 10 pm to 6 am.

As personnel tried to unravel the mystery, more questions arose when security officers observed two individuals exiting the plane at the airport shortly after it landed in the grassy field, seemingly unharmed.

Robin King, the airport communications director, mentioned to FOX4 that the discovery of the aircraft in the field was made early in the morning, with two individuals being released from the airfield overnight. They were unharmed and departed the scene without any issues.

FlightAware data revealed that the plane made several circles over Fort Myers and Naples before landing at Naples Airport in Florida at 2:40 am. The runway had to be closed temporarily following the unexpected finding, but normal operations resumed after the disabled aircraft was relocated from the field at around 6:30 am.

During an interview with WINK News, King described the incident as “unusual” and “a mystery.” The pilot, identified as 24-year-old Brianna Brown, returned later in the day after the plane had been removed for inspection. Brown has cooperated with the Naples Police Department and airport operations team.

Lt. Bryan McGinn from the Naples Police Department stated that the pilot slid off the runway and notified the staff about the incident.

It was revealed that Brown had rented the plane from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, and an incident report was filed by the police. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been informed by airport authorities for further investigation into the matter.

Brown, hailing from Fort Lauderdale, sustained no injuries during the event and is assisting with the investigation. As of now, it remains uncertain whether Brown or the unidentified individual onboard will face any charges.
