Conor McGregor has officially announced that he will not be participating in the UFC’s White House event. Initially, there were talks of McGregor headlining the event on President Donald Trump’s property on June 14 against Michael Chandler, but now it seems McGregor will be returning to fight in July instead. UFC CEO Dana White is set to reveal the card for the White House event, where McGregor’s name is anticipated to be missing, indicating his comeback in July.
In an interview with Smash Cast, McGregor shared his thoughts on the situation, expressing his willingness to fight at the White House against Chandler. However, plans shifted, and McGregor is now looking towards the International Fight Week for his return to the octagon.
McGregor also disclosed that he will be fighting at welterweight in his next bout, emphasizing his readiness to face any opponent offered to him. Despite the change in plans for McGregor, the White House event may feature Jon Jones making his comeback against Alex Pereira, the former middleweight and light-heavyweight world champion who recently vacated his 205lb title.
