Conor McGregor has expressed approval for the UFC’s upcoming event at the White House, even though he is not scheduled to participate in it.
Initially rumored to headline a fight on President Donald Trump’s front lawn against Michael Chandler on June 14, McGregor is now expected to compete the following month. UFC CEO Dana White unveiled the White House card, featuring Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje as the main event.
In another significant matchup, Alex Pereira is set to move up to the heavyweight division to challenge Ciryl Gane for the interim belt in the co-main event. McGregor shared his enthusiasm for the event by posting a photo of the fight card on social media, stating “love it” despite his absence from the lineup. He later commended the card, referring to it as “a great card.”
McGregor had previously indicated that he was awaiting confirmation on his return to the octagon. He mentioned in an interview with Smash Cast that there were discussions about a potential matchup with Chandler at the White House, highlighting Chandler’s skills and expressing readiness for the bout. However, plans seem to have shifted towards a possible appearance during International Fight Week.
Additionally, McGregor revealed his intention to return at welterweight, emphasizing his increased size and readiness for any opponent that is presented to him. Despite ongoing negotiations and discussions with his management, McGregor expressed eagerness to make his comeback and hopes for a favorable offer soon.
