An emergency medical technician faces charges for allegedly taking a bottle of aftershave from the residence of an elderly man while responding to a call for assistance. The incident was recorded by a security camera at 85-year-old John Field’s home in Argyll and Bute on April 14.
John, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and terminal cancer, was taken to the hospital after experiencing a medical emergency. His daughter, Miranda, had installed the camera to monitor her father’s well-being due to his frequent falls. She was shocked when she reviewed the footage and saw the technician taking the aftershave from John’s dresser while he was in distress.
The video shows the technician conversing with Miranda in the room before discreetly pocketing the aftershave. Following the incident, a 67-year-old man was arrested and charged by the police. Miranda expressed her disbelief at the betrayal, highlighting her father’s kind nature and vulnerability.
The Scottish Ambulance Service acknowledged the incident and stated that the implicated worker had expressed intent to resign. They emphasized their commitment to upholding high standards of conduct and behavior among their staff. The service extended apologies to John and his family, vowing to cooperate with the police investigation.
This case has raised concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals and the trust placed in emergency responders during times of crisis. The ambulance service assured that they would fully support the ongoing investigation and ensure accountability for the incident.
