A former teammate of Joe Marler from the England rugby squad has accused him of being betrayed in the show “Celebrity Traitors.” Marler reached the final episode of the reality TV program but was ousted by his fellow contestants.
The 35-year-old, who retired from international rugby in November last year, was selected as one of the participants in the debut season of the BBC series, where he was part of a group tasked with uncovering a trio of Traitors.
Known for his outspoken nature during the show, Marler reached the final stage along with Ted Lasso actor Nick Mohammed, with whom he had forged a strong alliance.
However, Mohammed had a change of heart at the last moment and his deciding vote led to Marler’s elimination, allowing chat show host Alan Carr to claim the entire £87,500 charity prize as the remaining Traitor.
Marler’s ex-England teammates were surprised by the outcome as they watched the show together. Second-row Alex Coles shared insights about Marler’s personality behind the scenes before their match against Fiji.
Reflecting on Marler’s performance on the show, Coles mentioned, “We all thought he was going to excel if given the chance to connect with others. Joe is charismatic, has a great sense of humor, and it’s refreshing to see a different side of a rugby player showcased to the public.”
Despite the turn of events, Marler harbors no ill feelings towards Mohammed after the intense finale. The two embraced when the contestants reunited, and Marler spoke about the situation on Saturday Kitchen, expressing his admiration for Mohammed’s decision despite its impact.
Additionally, Marler formed a friendship with comedian Joe Wilkinson during the show, praising his humor and intelligence.
