Users of various devices, including Samsung models, are encountering screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text disappears or is replaced by blank white boxes within their emails.
Expressing frustration, Gmail enthusiasts have turned to social media to voice their concerns. One user, Jeremiah, took to X to address the problem, mentioning the ongoing flickering problem on his Samsung Fold inner screen, stating it as “unacceptable.”
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with a user detailing their struggle to read emails due to constant screen flickering. Despite attempting various troubleshooting methods like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, and device restarts, the issue persists.
Google product expert Kimiya Kitani has identified the root cause of the problem to be associated with Android System WebView, a critical component enabling apps to display web content within the application interface. Kitani highlighted that specific devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are experiencing intermittent challenges with Android System WebView, which has been escalated to Google for resolution.
Although the exact number of impacted users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and select Galaxy tablets are among the most affected. As a temporary workaround, Kitani suggests rotating the device to mitigate the flickering issue.
The recommended solution involves opening the email in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, then reverting to portrait orientation. This interim fix aims to alleviate the problem until a permanent solution is provided by Google.
