Millions of Gmail users are receiving a significant update from Google. The tech giant has announced the launch of a feature that allows users to change their email addresses, offering a solution for those unhappy with their original Gmail account name.
According to Google, this update enhances users’ digital identity by enabling them to modify their Google Account username, the part before @gmail.com, which is utilized for signing in to various services like Gmail, Photos, and Drive.
An added benefit of this update is that both the new and original email addresses will function simultaneously, ensuring that users do not miss any incoming emails regardless of which account receives them.
Google reassures users that the transition will not impact their stored data, including photos, messages, and emails. However, this update is currently only available in the US, leaving UK users waiting for its rollout in their region.
For those in the US, Google advises accessing account settings and selecting “personal info,” then proceeding to “email” and “Google account email” to find the option to change the email address. It is important to note that only one new address can be created every 12 months, and the original address will remain as an alternate on the account.
UK users are encouraged to monitor their settings for the update’s availability.
