“Trump to Confront Putin Over Ukraine Aggression”

Donald Trump is scheduled to have a conversation with Vladimir Putin today in a renewed effort to resolve the Russian President’s aggression towards Ukraine. This discussion precedes Trump’s upcoming meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, where there is speculation that the US might authorize Kyiv to utilize long-range Tomahawk missiles. Trump has been vocal in his criticism of Putin for failing to cease the conflict in Ukraine and for not engaging in direct peace talks with Zelensky. During their meeting at the White House on Friday, Zelensky is anticipated to request more advanced weaponry from the US, including Patriot air defense systems.

Trump has expressed his willingness to provide Ukraine with weapons if Putin persists in obstructing peace efforts in the region. He stated his readiness to supply Tomahawk missiles if the conflict remains unresolved, citing their significant reach of 2,500km and substantial warhead capabilities. Zelensky has acknowledged that tools such as Patriots and Tomahawks could establish a solid foundation for long-term peace.

In recent comments, Trump condemned Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, remarking that the prolonged warfare was tarnishing Putin’s image. Trump questioned Putin’s motives for prolonging the conflict, expressing surprise at Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russian forces for four years. Trump hinted at the possibility of engaging with Russia before granting Ukraine access to Tomahawk missiles.

This development follows Putin’s defiance of Trump, as he initiated a substantial aerial assault on Ukraine shortly after Trump’s calls for cessation of hostilities. Putin deployed MiG-31 bombers armed with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and authorized additional drone attacks, resulting in casualties and disruptions in Ukrainian cities.
