Max Verstappen’s win at the recent Las Vegas Grand Prix has gained more significance following the disqualification of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Norris, who was leading Piastri by 24 points in the drivers’ standings, has now been caught up by Verstappen, who is now in joint second place with Piastri. This turn of events has narrowed Norris’ lead to 42 points with just two races and a sprint race left in the season.
Following the race, Norris and Piastri were summoned by the stewards due to suspicions raised about their cars not meeting post-race regulations. It was later revealed that the skid block under their cars was too thin, leading to the disqualification of both drivers.
Verstappen, who secured victory by overtaking Norris, saw his position in the championship improve after the disqualifications. Meanwhile, George Russell of Mercedes moved up to second place, with his teammate Kimi Antonelli climbing to third place after a strong performance in the race.
With only a limited number of points up for grabs in the remaining races, the focus now shifts to the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix and the sprint race before the season concludes in Abu Dhabi. Verstappen, aiming to dethrone Norris, will need favorable outcomes in the final races to have a chance at retaining his championship title.
The title race remains open, with the possibility of a tiebreaker if Verstappen and Norris end up with the same points. Norris currently holds the advantage with more race wins, but Verstappen’s recent form has put pressure on the McLaren driver as the season nears its end.
The dynamic championship battle promises excitement as the top contenders vie for the coveted title in the remaining races, with every point crucial in determining the ultimate champion.
