A truck driver was filmed “watching the news” on his mobile phone while driving on a busy motorway. The incident, which involved an XDP lorry, took place near J22 at the Winwick Interchange on the M6 around 7:25 am on Tuesday, October 14. A passerby in another vehicle captured a video showing a mobile phone placed on the dashboard in front of the driver above the steering wheel.
The footage indicated that the driver was looking at the screen while traveling at high speed on the congested motorway. XDP, a UK-based freight and parcel carrier, stated that they are taking the matter seriously and have escalated it to their Operations Team for immediate review.
In a separate incident in August, a lorry crossed the central reservation on the M5 and drove in the wrong direction, narrowly avoiding a collision with a £100,000 Porsche. Peter Stone, 55, was driving home from a family vacation when the lorry approached him between junction 28 and junction 29 at 12:23 pm on Friday, August 1. Stone had to quickly change lanes to avoid a potential crash as the lorry driver continued driving in the opposite direction.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported after the incident, and emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The motorway was temporarily closed in both directions, with lanes one and two reopening to traffic around 1:30 pm.
