Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to make boxing history with a highly anticipated rematch at The Las Vegas Sphere in September. This event marks the first professional boxing bout to take place at this iconic venue.
The two legendary boxers previously faced off in what was dubbed the ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015, with Mayweather emerging as the victor. Despite both fighters retiring, Netflix has now confirmed Mayweather Pacquiao II for September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere, following their successful streaming of Anthony Joshua’s bout with Jake Paul last December.
The upcoming rematch is expected to break records, potentially becoming the most lucrative in boxing history. The previous Mayweather-Pacquiao fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena generated an impressive £4.6 million in pay-per-view buys and a record gate of $72.2 million.
Mayweather earned $250 million while Pacquiao banked $150 million from their initial encounter. Mayweather, with a perfect 50-0 record, will defend his title against Pacquiao in a professionally sanctioned contest.
Pacquiao expressed excitement about the rematch, stating that fans deserve it and emphasizing the global live streaming aspect via Netflix. He aims to hand Mayweather his first professional loss and bring glory to the Philippines.
Mayweather, confident in his abilities, believes the outcome of the rematch will mirror their first fight. Both fighters are expected to engage in warm-up bouts before their highly anticipated showdown. Pacquiao is slated to face Ruslan Provodnikov, while Mayweather is likely to fight Mike Tyson.
This rematch will be a historic event, being the first boxing match to headline The Sphere and only the second sports event following UFC 306 in September 2024.
