Ian Watkins, the former Lostprophets rockstar convicted of child sex offenses, reportedly spent a significant amount of money to ensure his safety while incarcerated at HMP Wakefield. According to a source from inside the prison, Watkins purchased friendships by transferring money to individuals who then facilitated payments to their contacts outside the prison for protection services.
The source disclosed that Watkins, despised by many inmates, relied on financial transactions to maintain his safety among the diverse inmate population at HMP Wakefield. He allegedly received support from female fans and continually proclaimed his innocence to shield himself from the shame of his crimes. It was revealed that Watkins had expended substantial sums on safeguarding measures within the prison.
As of February 2024, Watkins was reportedly located on C wing of the prison and engaged in educational activities. The source also mentioned an incident where Watkins was attacked with a makeshift weapon over an unpaid drug debt, serving as a warning to settle his dues promptly.
Following a 29-year sentence for various child sex offenses, including the attempted rape of an infant, Ian Watkins passed away at the age of 48 inside the prison. Two individuals, Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have been charged with his murder. Watkins had been convicted in 2013 after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to child sexual abuse, with the presiding judge condemning the case as a plunge into extreme depravity.
During the trial, Watkins admitted to conspiring to rape a child, engaging in sexual assaults on minors, possessing indecent images of children, and possessing an extreme pornographic image involving an animal. The tragic incident unfolded on a Saturday morning, marking the end of a controversial figure’s tumultuous life behind bars.
