Caring grandparents Larry and Deborah Dutton from Dewey, Oklahoma, provided a loving home for their granddaughter, Heidi, whom they adopted as an infant. The couple, well-respected in their small community, had been married for 40 years and were known for their generosity and involvement in church activities.
Heidi, then 17, was in a relationship with Lucas Walker, 20, which raised concerns among family and neighbors when Larry and Deborah had not been seen for some time. Police were called to check on their welfare in January 2023.
Upon entering the Duttons’ home, authorities detected suspicious odors and signs of attempted cleanup. A subsequent search uncovered bloodstained items, leading to the discovery of Deborah and Larry’s bodies buried in the backyard. Dutton and Walker were arrested and later confessed to the murders.

Walker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 35-year sentence, while Dutton admitted to first-degree murder, conspiracy, and desecration of corpses, resulting in a life sentence with parole eligibility after serving a specified term.
