“Greggs Considers Sausage Roll Vending Machines”

Greggs enthusiasts may soon have the opportunity to buy sausage rolls and other pastries from a vending machine. The bakery chain executives are exploring the implementation of “unattended retail solutions,” which will encompass both automated and manual vending options. While no specific launch date or locations have been disclosed yet, this development follows the successful introduction of three smaller Greggs Bitesize shops.

Recently, Greggs reported a 17.9% decrease in its statutory pre-tax profits to £167.4 million for the year ending December 27 compared to the previous year. The decline in profits was partly attributed to challenging market conditions and unusually hot weather. In 2025, Greggs opened a net of 121 new stores, expanding its total shop count to 2,739 locations.

The company aims to open approximately 120 additional stores this year with a long-term goal of surpassing 3,000 shops in the UK. Greggs CEO Roisin Currie expressed optimism about improving consumer spending due to lower inflationary pressures in the coming months. However, she acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by customers, emphasizing the need for careful planning in the current economic environment.

Greggs recently announced that there are no further price increases planned for this year, following a recent hike in the price of popular items like the sausage roll and a regular latte. Despite some price adjustments, the retailer maintained prices on meal deals, including the breakfast option at £3.15.

Moreover, Greggs disclosed that over 20,000 customers visited The Golden Flake Tavern, the company’s first pub serving beer, located in Newcastle’s Fenwick department store. The pub reported significant sales of items like Gosforth 1939 Lager and Pink Jammie Fizz cocktails, with the Sausage Roll & Mash dish emerging as a customer favorite.
