Emma Raducanu has decided to take her time in selecting a new long-term coach following her recent split with coach Francisco Roig. Roig became the ninth coach and seventh full-time coach to part ways with Raducanu during her career. The 2021 US Open champion made the decision to part with Roig due to differences in playing style.
Since January, Raducanu has been working with her hitting partner Alexis Canter and is content with this current setup as she prepares for the Indian Wells tournament in California, where she will face Anastasia Zakharova in the opening round.
While still collaborating with Mark Petchey on a daily basis, Raducanu acknowledged that Petchey, who is also a broadcaster with the Tennis Channel, is not available for full-time coaching. Raducanu expressed her desire to reconnect with her natural playing instincts and emphasized the importance of finding a coach who aligns with her style without feeling pressured to conform.
Raducanu praised Petchey’s impact on her game after their work together at Wimbledon last summer, crediting him with significant improvements both on and off the court. She highlighted their deep conversations and reflective moments, indicating a positive experience under his guidance.
Raducanu remains open to exploring coaching options but values the freedom to stay true to her instincts and playing style. She emphasized the need for a coach who respects her approach and expressed gratitude for the support she has received from Petchey and Canter.
