A tragic incident occurred in Rome where a tourist lost his life after accidentally falling from the Pantheon monument in front of his daughter. The victim, identified as Morimasa Hibino, a Japanese national, lost his balance and fell approximately 22 feet to his death around 9:50 pm local time. The 69-year-old fell from the perimeter wall of the iconic Pantheon in Rome while seated at the edge. The authorities were alerted to the situation by a passing priest who discovered the man in a ditch. Despite the swift response of emergency services and firefighters, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. It is reported that the man was sitting on the wall before losing his balance and falling. CCTV footage of the area where the incident occurred has been obtained by the authorities. The man’s daughter informed the police that her father fell due to a sudden illness, leaving her devastated by the loss.
The Pantheon, renowned as Rome’s best-preserved ancient monument and now functioning as a church and popular tourist destination, witnessed this unfortunate incident. This incident comes shortly after another tourist, an American citizen residing in Taiwan, suffered serious injuries at the Colosseum in Rome. The man had climbed a railing between the Colosseum’s arches, slipped, and landed on a sharp metal spike that pierced his spine, causing him to dangle from the fence until he lost consciousness.
The injured tourist, aged 47, was attempting to get a better view of the landmark, presumably to take a striking selfie. He was promptly taken to San Giovanni Hospital for urgent surgery in critical condition, later being described as serious but stable.
