“Foreign Secretary Supports Gaza’s Brave Young Patients”

Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, met courageous young individuals who were evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical treatment. Among them was eight-year-old Mohammed, who lost his leg in a bombing incident in Khan Younis. Following treatment in Jordan and receiving a prosthesis, Mohammed has since regained his ability to walk, run, and climb stairs with the support of a prosthetic limb.

During the visit to Specialty Hospital in Amman, Ms. Cooper commended Mohammed for his bravery and expressed support for his aspiration to become a policeman like his father. Mohammed is now engaged in online studies and following his favorite football team, Real Madrid.

Additionally, the Foreign Secretary interacted with sisters Sarraa, 17, and Sara, 15, who sustained severe injuries during a bombing incident in December 2024. The sisters faced challenges in Gaza due to limited medical resources but have received medical care in Jordan, including surgeries and rehabilitation.

Dr. Osama Hamed, a surgeon, highlighted the dire healthcare situation in Gaza due to the destruction of hospitals and medical supplies shortages. Ms. Cooper emphasized the UK’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare system and offering support for patients requiring medical evacuation.

Efforts are underway to restore and enhance healthcare services in Gaza with collaboration from various countries, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, and Germany. The focus remains on providing crucial medical assistance and rebuilding the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
