UK Fuel Prices Surge Amid Iran Conflict: Find Cheapest Refueling Spots

Fuel prices in the UK are on the rise as concerns about the impact of the Iran war triggering a surge in costs intensify. A newly released interactive map now displays average fuel prices by region and highlights the most economical places to refuel nearby.

Today, the price of crude oil surpassed $100 a barrel due to ongoing US and Israeli military actions against Iran, causing global market jitters. The average petrol price at UK pumps has climbed to 137p per liter, up by nearly 6p since the conflict commenced nine days ago.

Experts caution that if crude oil prices remain high, British drivers should brace for further cost escalations. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit notes that sustained oil trading at $100 per barrel could push petrol prices to around 150p per liter, while hitting $120 per barrel could mean prices of about 170p per liter in the UK.

Across the UK, fuel prices vary significantly depending on the location. In Northern Ireland, prices are notably lower than the national average, with Belfast’s forecourts offering standard unleaded at an average of 125.8p per liter.

The priciest areas for refueling include North Warwickshire, Maidstone, Breckland, and Brentwood, where petrol averages above 141p per liter. However, within each of these regions, there are cheaper filling stations with prices closer to the national average.

For the most cost-effective refueling, head to an ASDA garage in County Durham, the cheapest spot in the UK. Drivers filling up there could save up to £24, as the station charges 127.7p per liter, translating to £70 to fill an average 55-liter tank.

Conversely, the most expensive station in the UK is an ASDA outlet in South Lanarkshire, where standard petrol costs 171.9p per liter, totaling £95 for a typical family car’s full tank. Diesel prices have surged faster than petrol, with an increase of approximately 9p per liter since the Iran conflict began.

For diesel vehicle owners seeking savings, an ASDA garage in Kingswood, Hull, offers the lowest price at 134.9p per liter. These prices were sourced from retailers as of Monday, 9th March 2026, at 4:45 am.
