Samsung has introduced its latest range of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially disrupting Apple’s plans. The tech giant from Korea revealed three new devices, led by the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 8, featuring a fresh design.
In contrast to previous Fold models, Samsung has opted for a shorter, wider “passport-style” design instead of the tall cover screen and square main panel. This new shape offers a unique closed look but unfolds into a 7.6-inch display, resembling a compact tablet more than a smartphone, perfect for multimedia consumption and gaming on the move.
The launch holds significance as Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone later this year, possibly following a similar design approach. Samsung’s early move could give it an edge over its primary competitor.
Beyond the design, Samsung is also advancing in other aspects. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the company’s thinnest and lightest Fold model yet, weighing only 180g. It incorporates an improved hinge for enhanced durability and longevity, along with features like Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for better outdoor visibility.
Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, the device boasts a 4,800mAh battery that can charge up to 63% in just 30 minutes. It comes with a dual-camera system for quality photography, Gorilla Glass for protection, and Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI tools for enhanced functionality.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is priced from £1,699 and is now available for pre-order. In contrast, Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, expected later this year, may cost over £2,000.
Additionally, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling the previous Fold 7 in design but featuring significant upgrades, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a powerful camera setup with improved low-light capabilities and 8K video recording. The device also boasts a Flex Titanium hinge, a refined display structure, and a 5,000mAh battery for extended usage.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts from £1,899. Lastly, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains Samsung’s popular clamshell design but is thinner and lighter, offering enhanced performance, camera features, and an improved external cover display.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is priced from £1,149, completing Samsung’s latest lineup of foldable smartphones.
