An individual suspected of wielding a knife was apprehended for allegedly assaulting police officers and civilians near a college in Bradford. The authorities responded to the incident at Bradford College earlier this morning, where security personnel initially detained the suspect before West Yorkshire Police took him into custody.
Reportedly, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attacking two civilians and two emergency responders. The charges include a racially-aggravated public order offense and damaging a police vehicle. The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized. A small gardening tool was confiscated at the scene.
Detective Inspector Ailis Coates stated that the community might have concerns about the incident but assured that the suspect was promptly apprehended. She urged any witnesses with footage of the incident to share it with the police for the ongoing investigation. Police presence remains in the area to offer reassurance to college staff, students, and the community.
In a separate incident, a school in Wigan briefly went into lockdown after reports of a person carrying a gun. The police searched the area following a report of a suspicious item in a bag resembling a firearm but found nothing. The school lifted the lockdown after the police deemed it safe, and patrols in the area continue for reassurance.
