The ex-world champion was found at his £1.7 million home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, 2023, at the age of 46. Paul Speak discovered him unresponsive at the property, after Hatton had last been seen alive by family members on September 12, appearing well. His absence at a scheduled event prompted concern, leading to the discovery of his body by Paul Speak on the morning of September 14.
The senior coroner, Alison Mutch, highlighted during the inquest that while Hatton had significant future plans, there were no indications of intent to end his life based on the evidence. She emphasized the uncertainties surrounding his intentions, especially considering his alcohol consumption and the presence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in his brain. The analysis also indicated degenerative changes consistent with conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. Despite Hatton’s past struggles with alcohol and drugs, his family attested that he appeared to be in a positive state before his untimely passing.
