“Claim Up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payment Now!”

Pensioners who have reached State Pension age are being alerted to the opportunity to claim up to £300 this week. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that individuals eligible for this year’s Winter Fuel Payment can now apply by phone, following the opening of phone lines on October 13.

According to the Daily Record, pensioners can alternatively opt for a postal claim, with detailed instructions provided on GOV.UK. The Winter Fuel Payments, which will benefit around nine million people in England and Wales, are set to be distributed automatically between November and December.

In Scotland, approximately 880,000 pensioners will receive payments of up to £305 next month through the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment scheme. Eligibility for these payments is limited to those born before September 22, 1959, from either the DWP or Social Security Scotland.

Letters outlining the expected payment amounts will be dispatched this month, with most payments scheduled for issuance in November or December. Recipients will be notified of the payment details, including the designated bank account, which is typically the same account used for State Pension or other benefits.

The DWP has assured that most eligible individuals will receive the Winter Fuel Payment automatically if they met the criteria during the qualifying week between September 15 and 21, 2025.

For those not currently receiving specific benefits, a claim for the Winter Fuel Payment must be made if certain conditions are met. The deadline for claims for the winter 2025-2026 season is March 31, 2026, with instructions available on how to apply via post or phone on GOV.UK.

To qualify for the Winter Fuel Payment, individuals must have been born on or before September 22, 1959, and reside in England or Wales. Certain criteria exclude individuals from eligibility, such as residing in a care home or meeting specific conditions set forth for exclusion.

HMRC will collect the Winter Fuel Payment through PAYE or Self Assessment tax return procedures. The opt-out period for pensioners in England and Wales ended on September 15, while Scottish pensioners had until October 10 to opt out of the scheme.
