“Defeated Boxer’s Positive Spirit Shines Despite Hospitalization”

Glenn Byrne displayed a positive demeanor, engaging in conversation and laughter, despite being hospitalized following his defeat to William Crolla on Friday evening. Crolla, the brother of former WBA lightweight champion Anthony, secured victory over the Irishman in the seventh round at Planet Ice, Altrincham, marking Byrne’s first professional loss.

During the fight, Byrne knocked down Crolla multiple times, leading many to believe the match should have been stopped earlier. However, the referee allowed the bout to continue, culminating in Crolla delivering a decisive knockout in the seventh round, boosting his professional record to 10-1 while Byrne’s now stands at 7-1-1.

After the fight, Byrne received medical attention in the ring before being transported to the hospital. His brother and trainer, Jay Byrne, provided an update on Glenn’s condition, stating that he was in good spirits and awaiting the results of a CT scan.

Promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged the potential consequences for Crolla had he lost the fight, emphasizing the resilience and determination displayed by both fighters. Crolla expressed his concern for Byrne’s well-being, acknowledging his opponent’s courage and fighting spirit throughout the match.
