EE, a BT-owned company offering broadband and TV services, has unveiled a new feature called Smart Search on its TV devices. This feature is aimed at simplifying the search process for viewers by allowing them to search using natural language, such as mood, theme, or plot details. Users can search for content by describing what they want to watch, like mentioning characters or genres, without needing to know specific titles.
With Smart Search, EE TV aggregates results from live TV, on-demand services, and streaming apps, presenting them all in one place for easy access. This feature enables users to find content quickly based on their preferences, whether it be a specific genre, actor, or mood.
In addition to Smart Search, EE has also introduced Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that assists viewers in narrowing down their choices further. By answering a few questions about their mood, preferred genres, and themes, customers receive personalized recommendations. This tool is particularly useful for families who struggle to decide on a movie for a Saturday night.
According to Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, the introduction of Smart Search and Mood Matcher aims to simplify the content discovery process for households. EE is proud to offer the UK’s first pay-TV service with conversational, AI-powered search capabilities, setting it apart from other providers like Sky and Freeview.
Paolo Pescatore, a technology analyst, highlighted that faster content discovery enhances the overall viewing experience, especially in a digital landscape where audiences are inundated with content choices. Smart Search and Mood Matcher are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible TVs, with support for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices expected soon.
