Beauty Bay, an online retailer of cosmetics, is facing potential collapse after submitting a notice of intent to appoint administrators. This action initiates a process where the company is preparing for administration, allowing a brief legal freeze preventing creditors from taking legal actions for ten days.
According to Sky News, the notice was lodged earlier this week, coinciding with Beauty Bay taking down its website and displaying a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.” Established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers over 200 brands on its platform, including popular names like Ariana Grande, Clinique, MAC, and its own product line.
Reports had previously indicated that Beauty Bay was exploring various funding options, potentially involving a complete sale of the business. Interpath, an advisory firm, has been collaborating with Beauty Bay on a business review. The company, which employs 65 individuals, has been contacted by the Mirror for comments.
In a related development, Quiz, a fashion retailer, has also entered administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. The redundancies are affecting the head office in Glasgow and the Lanarkshire warehouse. Quiz’s website has been deactivated, and customers with undelivered online orders are being informed of cancellations.
Quiz has advised customers to seek refunds through their banks or credit card providers. For credit card transactions exceeding £100, consumers may be eligible for refunds under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Debit card purchases or credit card transactions under £100 made in the last 120 days could potentially utilize Chargeback for refunds.
Despite the administration, Quiz stores are operational and planning stock clearances across all branches. Notably, the retailer is no longer honoring gift cards. With 40 stores in the UK and concessions in New Look and Matalan outlets, Quiz’s concessions operating within these stores are not part of the administration proceedings.
