Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reportedly reached an agreement to face each other in an anticipated heavyweight bout, with key details now unveiled. Speculation arose last December about the long-awaited resolution of their rivalry inside the boxing ring in 2026. However, following his recent victory over Jake Paul just after Christmas, Anthony Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria, resulting in the tragic loss of his close friends Sina Ghami and Lateef ‘Latz’ Ayodele.
Despite concerns over Joshua’s future in boxing post the accident, the former two-time heavyweight world champion is back in light training, hinting at a potential ring return this summer. Reports suggest that Joshua might first square off against former foe Dillian Whyte before eyeing a showdown with Fury.
Renowned boxing journalist Gareth A Davies disclosed that both Fury and Joshua have formally agreed to the showdown. Davies confirmed during a talkSPORT interview that the fight has been signed behind the scenes, expressing confidence in the deal. He mentioned, “The Fury-Joshua fight is signed. It is signed in the background. I’ve got that on good authority.”
Davies hinted that the highly anticipated match is likely to be broadcast on Netflix, targeting a late-year or next-year timeframe, with Joshua’s potential comeback anticipated in June or July. He emphasized, “It’s with the big money people. It’ll be on Netflix. It’s on the cards and it’s going to happen.”
Netflix is scheduled to air Fury’s return on April 11. Following his brief retirement announcement last year, Tyson Fury is set to face Russian knockout specialist Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Netflix’s increasing presence in boxing has been notable with broadcasts of significant fights like Paul vs Joshua, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, and Paul vs Mike Tyson.
Joshua is nearing a full training regimen for a potential ring comeback later this year. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, indicated that a potential all-British heavyweight clash between Fury and Joshua remains a possibility despite Joshua’s recent challenges.
Hearn clarified, “Originally the plan with AJ was for him to fight in March and then face Tyson Fury in August. However, given the circumstances, Joshua is likely to return in late summer. Every fight post-recovery is a risk, and while open to a Fury match, it may occur towards the end of this year or early 2027.”
