Nigel Farage is under scrutiny in Parliament for a delayed disclosure of interests. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards initiated an inquiry on October 30 concerning Farage’s earnings and overseas visits. The investigation focuses on his apparent omission of a trip to Florida earlier this year to headline a fundraising event for Donald Trump.
Farage, who recently announced intentions to cut benefits, was the keynote speaker at a Republican party dinner in Tallahassee, where attendees could purchase VIP tickets for £18,445, inclusive of a photo opportunity with the Clacton MP. He attributed the oversight of not registering the trip to an administrative mistake within his office.
According to parliamentary regulations, MPs are required to declare any foreign trips exceeding £300, funded partially or fully by sources other than public funds, within 28 days. In response to the investigation, a Labour representative criticized Farage for his absences from Parliament and controversial policy proposals.
Additionally, Lib Dem Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper called for transparency regarding Farage’s association with Trump’s administration and his failure to report earnings from the dinner. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards previously investigated Farage over ownership of an undisclosed fishing boat, concluding that the vessel belonged to a company associated with him, not a personal asset.
Recent findings from The Mirror revealed Farage as the highest-earning MP, with a diverse portfolio of outside activities. Since the Brexit referendum, he has amassed a significant property portfolio and substantial monthly income. Despite media inquiries, Reform UK declined to comment on the matter.
