Aldi has issued an urgent warning advising customers not to consume one of its own-brand ice creams due to undeclared wheat (gluten) content. The supermarket chain is swiftly removing the product, Gianni’s Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream, from its shelves. This oversight poses a potential health risk for individuals with coeliac disease, wheat allergies, or gluten intolerance.
The affected ice cream, with a best-before date of August 14, 2027, is the subject of the recall. Aldi is urging customers who purchased this product and have wheat or gluten allergies or intolerances to refrain from eating it. Instead, they are encouraged to return it to the nearest Aldi store for a full refund.
This alert pertains to Aldi stores across England, Scotland, and Wales. The company expressed regret that the product failed to meet its usual high quality standards. The Food Standards Agency (FSA), the UK government body responsible for safeguarding public health concerning food, is overseeing this recall.
FSA issues allergy alerts when a product poses a risk due to inaccurate allergen labels or other potential hazards for food allergies.
