Two brothers, Patrick Leonard, 23, and Lannee Ksigwa, 19, were found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl, who later gave birth to a child that DNA tests confirmed was Leonard’s. The young victim bravely shared her traumatic experience with the court, accusing the brothers of robbing her innocence. Leonard, who was HIV positive, knowingly put the girl at risk but fortunately, she did not contract the virus.
During the sentencing, Leonard received 24 years plus a year on license, while Ksigwa was sentenced to 12 years’ detention in a young offender institution. Both brothers must serve at least two-thirds of their sentences and register as sex offenders for life. They are also prohibited from contacting the victim and anyone else related to the case. Detective Inspector Simon Howroyd commended the victim for her courage in navigating the legal process and emphasized the serious consequences of the brothers’ actions, labeling them as dangerous sexual predators. West Yorkshire Police encourage victims of sexual offenses to come forward and assure them of sensitive treatment.
