Labour Party Reinstates Suspended MPs after Whip Restoration

Four Members of Parliament who were suspended by the Labour Party have been reinstated after discussions with the Chief Whip. Brian Leishman, Chris Hinchliff, Neil Duncan-Jordan, and Rachael Maskell, who were elected last year, were suspended in July for repeatedly violating party discipline. Following a review of their recent behavior, all four MPs have had the Labour whip restored. They were part of a group of Labour backbenchers who opposed government plans to cut disability benefits in July, a move that was later abandoned due to a significant backlash.

In a statement, Rachael Maskell expressed gratitude for the restoration of the whip and reiterated her commitment to Labour values and advocating for those in need. She emphasized the importance of addressing poverty and improving public services. Brian Leishman, representing Alloa and Grangemouth, highlighted the significance of having the whip restored for himself, local party members, and the communities he serves. Neil Duncan-Jordan, the MP for Poole, underlined his long-standing involvement in the Labour movement and pledged to continue working for his constituents and promoting Labour’s principles.

Chris Hinchliff welcomed the reinstatement and mentioned positive discussions with the new chief whip. He reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of North East Hertfordshire and supporting Labour’s mission of prioritizing people and the environment over profit.
