Justin Rose expressed his ambition to achieve a career Grand Slam following his victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he surpassed Tiger Woods’ scoring record. Despite his age of 45, the Ryder Cup veteran dismissed any immediate plans of becoming the next European captain if Luke Donald declines the position in 2027.
“I still believe there’s good stuff in front of me,” stated the current world No.3. Rose’s remarkable performance included an opening round of 62, leading him to a wire-to-wire victory at Torrey Pines with a total score of 23-under 265, surpassing Tiger Woods and George Burns’ previous records.
Reflecting on his recent success, Rose acknowledged his improved tee-to-green play and mental maturity in California, emphasizing the confidence gained from his accomplishments. With 13 tour titles under his belt, including victories at prestigious courses like Muirfield Village and Pebble Beach, Rose remains determined to achieve more in his career.
While emphasizing his focus on major championships, Rose admitted his childhood dream of completing the Grand Slam, acknowledging the challenges ahead but remaining optimistic about his recent performances bringing him closer to that goal. In contrast, Brooks Koepka finished tied 56th in his return to the PGA Tour, as the new season of the Saudi-backed league prepares to kick off.
Despite turning down an early offer from the LIV Golf league, Rose reaffirmed his commitment to the European and PGA Tours, citing his desire to compete against the best players globally as his primary motivation. The seasoned golfer emphasized that his career aspirations align with staying competitive on the major tours, rejecting alternative paths that did not align with his ultimate goals.
