A man incurring a substantial medical expense after accidentally severing an artery in his leg due to a shattered shower door while vacationing has been highlighted. Kaylum Jones, age 28, had to undergo surgery following the incident that occurred during his trip to Egypt, resulting in a medical bill of £35,000.
While on holiday with his partner, Kaylum experienced the shower door shattering on the second day of their vacation, causing the severe injury. His sister, Chantele, recounted that the situation was so dire that Kaylum feared for his life.
Upon seeking medical treatment that necessitated major surgery, Kaylum discovered that the travel insurance he had purchased did not cover the required healthcare expenses. It was revealed that he had neglected to obtain insurance prior to departing from the UK and only arranged for it upon reaching the airport in Egypt.
Chantele shared the harrowing experience of Kaylum undergoing emergency surgery while his partner managed the insurance details, with Kaylum being alert throughout the operation. The family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the outstanding medical costs to facilitate Kaylum’s return home, as they have already taken out loans which come with their own challenges.
An online fundraiser has amassed £4,000 to aid in settling the medical bill. Kaylum, recuperating from the surgery to repair the severed artery, is preparing to return to his residence in Milton Keynes. Chantele emphasized the importance of securing travel insurance before embarking on international trips, underscoring that policies typically mandate obtaining insurance in the UK.
She noted that additional skin graft surgery might be required for her brother upon his return to the UK. Despite the language barriers, Kaylum received excellent care during his recovery in Egypt, according to Chantele.
